Really enjoyed exploring parallels between the neoliberal rush to use artificial intelligence (AI) and the excitement and moral horror of the early years of the western colonial venture. it is useful to see the need to raise concerns about how value is extracted by AI, from whom and for whom as a parallel with the 18 century anticipation of colonial expropriation which excited investors and appalled moral sentiments. From that history I take the mass celebration of the fruits of colonial extraction by the working people of the west. It has taken more than 200 years for a broader cultural recognition and acknowledgement of that racial injustice, and even that is still fiercely contested. How do we shout “wake up to the danger” as so many will be lulled by the benefits?
